basic breakfast

A easy way to spruce up the most basic of breakfast; milk and cereal:

Since I need to do some grocery shopping and there’s nothing to eat, I went for the easy choice of milk and cereal but why stop there… An easy way to add some antioxidants, omega 3 fatty acids, fiber and all that good stuff into your body is by turning something simple, to be a little more complex.

If you’re lactose intolerant, a delicious substitution is Coconut Milk.
I’ll rave endlessly about this because I love almost everything coconut. Plus, it’s still a good source of calcium AND this contains 60% medium chain fatty acids. Just cause it says “fatty”, these are “good fats”, which mean they will actually be easier for your body to burn as energy!

(sticking to morning talk, this is me – no make up, bed head, and my chipped nails… Bare with me here)

For the cereal, I know childhood ones bring back memories but don’t fall into the trap. Read the label! Those usually consist of sugar as their top ingredient and because cereal grains are so refined, they are striped and hold poor nutritional value.

What’s in my bowl? Nature’s Path Organic Hemp Plus Granola.
(Although, steel cut oats are the best oats to eat, this was already in my pantry… I used it with my greek yogurt, hah)

Easy Additives:
Chia Seeds rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber and minerals. Super helpful for your metabolism, people with diabetes and who doesn’t like having good skin! I’m impatient so I like to put 1tbsp or 2 into the milk first so they can soak. You want them to produce this clear little jelly layer around the seed.

Raisins can’t get enough of those antioxidants but they’re also one of the richest sources of the mineral boron used for building strong bones. Also, I like that they give a chewy texture to the crunch of the cereal. Ideally, you should try to buy raisins or any dried fruits that don’t use Sulfites as a preservative.

Blueberries high in antioxidants and low on the GI (glycemic index). Though they aren’t the lowest GI berry, they’re still favorable for regulating your blood sugar. Adding any fruit into your cereal is good too!

Give it a try and enjoy! Like they say, breakfast is the most important meal so start your morning off right. It’s what kick starts the rest of your day!

Just a quick little hash-tag outfit of the day post. Ive been trying to squeeze as much time with my BFF before she leaves me for.. kinda, forever! It’s bizarre to fathom the idea of a long distance relationship, haha. Lesbihonest, when it comes to speaking about friendships, especially at a best friend level, does it not equate and automatically rank the BFF at par to a BF? Acronym overload. That aside, I’m pleased and zealous for all that she’ll pursue. Definitely motivation and a driver to push myself out of my comfort zone. Current thought bubbles are forming with brainstorms and re-evaluations in the works! Like a pop of color, my thoughts will often times be candid and random so bare with me. In due time, like my red striped shirt I tied on my waist, it’ll come in handy *tongue out emoji*

Nothing like starting a summer’s morning early with the sound of champagne bottle popping and uncorking some vino. The girls and I decided to keep it classy with a limo trip to Napa for some good old wine tasting. A perfect occasion to dust off this flower petal dress I bought a few years back for graduation. Even then, I still adore the petals and this will probably be the few things that I own that oozes femininity. A shift dress with thrills and frills especially in white may be a concern for some since none of those attribute to being figure flattering. So a quick and easy solve I like to do, is ‘waist’ it. I cinched the waist with an elastic band, you can easily use a skinny belt or have fun and use ribbon etc, just so I don’t look anymore boxier than my day to day. Threw my necessities into my usual vintage D&G cross-body and kept my pinkies up as I slipped into my beloved color-block Chanel’s.

how to: keep it short and sweet

IMG_0164IMG_0165IMG_0169IMG_0179

Let’s keep this short, pun intended. I love rocking shorts but being in SF, unless you’re ballsy and can brave the cold weather which I can’t, shorts just pile up in the dark corners of my closet. However; perfectly and magically with the welcome to summer, my shorts and legs finally get to see some sunlight! We were encouraged to wear our shorts to work so hey, don’t mind if I do. Especially with the weather being absolutely amazing… if only for two days.
Thought I’d share a few tips on

HOW TO WEAR SHORTS TO WORK:

DO’S:
STILL DRESS LIKE YOU’RE GOING TO WORK. Rocking a blazer or good silk blouse with shorts are always a win!

CONSERVE YOUR TOP HALF – Keep the focus on one body part at a time. In this case, it’ll be your lovely legs.

WEAR APPROPRIATE SHORTS – In a conservative place, shorts are already walking a fine line so opt for shorts that don’t cling too much on your derriere. Denim can work sometimes, but if you’re not sure, sticking to dress shorts is a safe bet.

DON’TS:
WEAR THOSE DENIM, BOOTY CUT OFFS – Please.Don’t wear any type of booty shorts to work in general!

OVERLY SEX IT UP – You’re already strutting those sexy legs so it’s not necessary to wear a strapless top or a low cut shirt. Remember that you’re at work not dressing for a night out.
(If you must, cause you’re heading to Happy Hour or dinner after: keep it classy by covering up with a blazer or cardigan and de-clothe after work)

BEND AND SNAP (Legally Blonde reference. If you don’t know, watch: here) – I know, I know.. It’s hard to resist when you accidently drop a pen but best to keep your bum in your shorts during work hours. Unless you’re trying to snag that hot coworker, that’s all on you.

This may be new for you or this may be all things you may already know. If so, take it as a good reminder. Either way, keep it short and sweet!

Nordstrom top and cardigan, Gap camo chinos, Aldo heels, vintage Dooney & Bourke bag, vintage silver cuff

I have my hand on my head so much here, I know you might mistaken me for having a massive headache. Thanks for the concern and nope, hardly the case. I’d like to place partial blame on the combination of the wind and my long hair, mixed with poor attempts to do something with my hands.
So once you get to know me, you’ll find that I love baggy tees and sweaters. This cardigan has bat wings and paired with the grey baggy, box tee, I gave it a little knot to create some dimension. Sadly again, the wind loves to blow me around so if you think I’m top heavy, that’s all I gotta say about that!

Ps. These Aldo pumps are ages old and my first pair of stilettos. Can you tell from the teeny tiny almost kitten heel? I’ll be honest.. I had no idea how to walk in heels then. Okay, let’s be really honest… I still can’t sometimes but that won’t stop me now! How about you? When was your first pair of stilettos and did you magically strut with them?

stop and smell the roses

Am I allowed to hashtag late-post and sorry for the delay on here? Oh well, here it is: #latepost #sorryfornotpostinganythingsooner. Yes, I did the extremely long hashtag. They tend to be a pet peeve for some and hilarious for others. I personally view it as a mini challenge deciphering, especially when the letters jumbo and I completely misinterpret the words; it’s similar to the old lady vs young lady illusion. Remember when it was only called the pound sign? Believe me when I say I was mind boggled when introduced the name, “hashtag”. In my silly mind, I thought, “So.. does that mean if you ever called a business and was prompted to ‘press pound’, it’ll now be … (I’m not even gonna finish my sentence because you can only guess where it’s going). Shut up, if you think it’s stupid and high five, if you agree because that seriously went through my mind, even if for a few seconds. Enough on the hash tagging craze.

Last week was busy busy and this was an outfit from a few weeks back. It’s so hard to just stop and smell the roses and when I do, I completely indulge and ‘lax out to the max. At this point, I’m still re-evaluating my time and figuring out a good balance. A part of that time, I’ve made a promise to make more time for this! So look forward to the posts upcoming; I have some super easy and helpful tips I can’t wait to share! May it pertain to food (yum), health (woohoo!), fashion (hello…) or just random rumbo-jumbo (might happen)! Stay tuned!

This weekend was jam packed with the sun reeling in plenty of good fun with my favorite peeps. Brunch and BBQs to the amazing XX concert; I was in constant movement. Today being the very last day that SFMOMA would be opened, the girls and I paid a visit and got inspired by all the great artwork. Truly a beautiful venue. It’ll be interesting to see the new changes made when they re-open three years from now. With the bi-polar weather that is SF, dressing requires layers on layers on layers. Though it was still gorgeous out, it wasn’t long before it got windy so the bare legs needed some warmth. Thinking ahead, these thigh high socks came to my rescue this afternoon so I was a-okay.

Hope everyone else enjoyed their weekend!
