Gap jacket, Zara tee, Urban Outfitters high waist jeans, Urban Outfitters sneaker wedges, vintage Coach ‘Willis‘ bag, Marc Jacobs spike ring
If you love something, you wear the bajeezus outta it, right? Exactly. Part of the rotation is this jacket (see here) and these high-waist black jeans that fit like a glove. Oh and sneaker wedges, been coveting since day one yet avoided purchasing a pair for the longest time. Already owning more than a handful of kicks that I hardly wear now, I didn’t want another excuse to allow them to collect dust. Then a sale happened (a while back) and I got saw these wannabe Isabel Marants at Urban Outfitters for about $20. SOLD. Saved me from questioning a $600 purchase on the real deal; so sorry fashion gods, please forgive me for I am just the typical broke post-college student of life now trying to get her shiz together, haha!
HOW TO: This isn’t one of the healthiest recipes I’ll post, but it will be a delicious one! : )
My sister actually made this a while back and it was bomb.com… Thought I needed to make this myself and share the recipe that she learned from sallysbakingaddiction.com, an awesome site filled with mouth watering recipes! So get your ingredients ready:
Suggested to use an 8×8 pan but I ended up using a big Pyrex bowl because that was all I had available. (So what, dough!)
- 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter, cold
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup slivered almonds
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup milk (almond milk works fine too)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup chocolate chips (your prefernce of: dark, milk, semi-sweet or white)
- 1& 1/2 cups fresh or frozen (thawed) unsweetened raspberries
Spray baking pan with a non-stick spray (or what I did was coat it with thin layer of coconut oil). Set aside.
Preheat oven at 350ºF
Let’s start with the STREUSEL:
Gently mash up 3 tablespoons of cold butter in a small bowl. Add 1/4 cup all-purpose flour + 1/4 cup sugar and mix around with a fork. You want a chunky and crumbly texture. Add almonds. Set aside.
Now for the CAKE:
In a large bowl with a handheld or stand mixer, add your flour, sugar, butter, milk, vanilla extract, baking powder, salt, and egg. Beat on low until everything is sufficiently combined – about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed. Do not over-mix.
Lay it on – Spread half of the batter into your prepared baking pan. Layer with half of the streusel, then add in most of your raspberries and chocolate chips. Repeat with the rest of the batter and streusel. Top with remaining raspberries and chocolate chips.
Let it bake:
Bake for 45-50 minutes, covered. To determine if done – stick toothpick in the middle of cake and if toothpick comes out clean, voila! You’ve just finished baking a raspberry choocolate coffee cake!
Zara dress, Marc Jacobs bracelet, Vera Bradley wallet, Target booties, Marc Jacobs glasses (holding in hand)
Given in love. To defend. Given in love for protection. Whatever the translation on this Latin phrase may be on my bracelet, it is of that gist. The word “love”, thrown around so loosely yet the display and actions of love seem a bit harder to come by when watching the news or simply walking to work. But, I believe it’s still there and it’s all around, even if its hidden in the nooks and crannies. I’m a hopeless romantic. Just because I’m not currently in a relationship, it doesn’t mean all of a sudden I’m cynical. No way, we still have our relationships with so much more; love, to me is beyond just two people. It’s with family, friends, the self, strangers, across nations, and for everything.
What I meant with needing more love in the world is a friendly reminder to do a good deed for someone that you owe nothing to; it’s as simple as a gentle smile. If you’re having a lousy day, wouldn’t you want something randomly sweet to happen to turn that frown upside down? Well, I’m sure at least five other people around the world are feeling the same exact way. Anyways, some food for thought. Have a good day : )
Epitome of PROVOCATIVE and CONTROVERSIAL. I have loved her from the start, so you can say I’m obsessed. Always loved her for her fashion sense, creative music videos, crazy website, to the sound of her music and the content of her lyrics.
I’ve gotten comments from people who think her music was weird with “what is that”, “what are you listening to”… until Paper Planes came out and when she performed at the Superbowl. It then transcended to “Oh.. M.I.A, I know her! I like her!” so I’m glad that’s the spirit. She says things not many artist would! She opens up the can of worms, and brings topics into discussion ie. Politics. One of the most complicated subject for anyone to agree upon.
I’m not here to talk about parties (unless you mean a cocktail party) but I do love hearing opinions and being able to show people different sides to a story; playing devil’s advocate if you will. M.I.A for an average girl like me (and this may start to sound like adoring rant), stimulates the brain – thoughts of third world conditions, where on a given day, may not even be considered and frankly, that’s the shhhh… I like!
Watch the leaked documentary and see why I’ve dedicated this post all of her. Hats off to someone who has the balls to flick off national TV (superbowl), bring awareness regarding terrorism, women’s rights in Saudi Arabia and sex trade in China! You don’t have to understand it; just have a open mind! That’s what life is about, exploring and experiencing different things. Don’t go m.i.a. (missing in action), watch M.I.A.
Rubbish sheer embroidered peplum top (similar), Express boxy tee, Forever 21 distressed zipper jeans (similar), vintage belt, Zara heels, vintage classic Coach bag
I can’t believe I’m so tempted to start the post with… wait for it… “Yup, in my white tee!” (dang, just brought it back to the early 2000’s when guys swam in XXXL Tall Tees from Foot Locker) but in my case, I’m rocking the over-sized boxy tee. I wanted to remain fairly minimalistic and stuck with neutrals – white, black and hints of gold… and my blue nail polish. Excuse that, haha. Decided to give this big ol’ shirt a little knot to expose some of the sheer peplum top that I paired underneath to give some texture. With all the gold hardware, it was only proper to complete the mini gold message with the gold heeled sandals. Thanks to my cousin for passing off these Zara heels to me because they’re definitely an attention grabber. Well, it’s either that or the fact that the ankle strap it a bit too high so it makes walking slightly difficult so, in all actuality, I could just be strutting like a running camel. Enjoy that lovely imagery, and I’ll leave you all with that, haha!
outfit: Gap double breasted shawl collar sweater, Cotton on harem pants jumpsuit, Forever 21 sweater, vintage Coach bag, Urban Outfitter boots. food: Trouble Coffee and Outerlands
Overcast on a summer’s day. Sleepy, squinty eyes. Comfortable attire and catching up over brunch with some good friends. With the latter taken place, the day’s not all too bad. So what, the leopard may be a bit much for some but I’m a sucker for harem pants and toned down with cozy neutrals, I can dig it.
If you haven’t noticed by now, I’ve been on a ever long streak of not shopping so all the previous and future posts will most likely be outfits utilizing what I already own. Don’t get me wrong since I’ve made a few misdemeanors, purchasing some newbies so it’s all about self control. Sadly, I believe that all the money I’ve saved myself from shopping is counteracted by my food consumption… and that’s another topic up for discussion.
I can’t wait for a wardrobe revamp but until then, this whole not buying new, has really pushed me to flip my drawers, trying to style pieces together. It’s a fun challenge I’ve accepted where I have my days when I think “why the hell did I buy this” and days when I’m like “oh yeah… forgot how cute this was”. Point is, it allows me be more aware, economical and sustainable to our environment. Rather than constantly in with the new-new, I’m a big advocate for thrifting (before the thrift shop song popularizing it) and just finding ways to ‘recycle’ your clothing – whether it be re-thinking how you wear it, turning things into a DIY project, donating, etc. Hope it can inspire you to dig through your closet and pay a visit to some of the old and mixing it with your new.
Urban Outfitters cut out silk dress, Oscar de la Renta sunglasses, Steve Madden sandals, Zoya nail polish
Keeping it simple and clean. Okay, the dress got dirty because I was at a BBQ and when there’s food around.. I’m prone to spilling accidents. Paired this dress with my denim biker jacket but it was way too hot to keep any layers on so luckily I got my blue toesies to keep me dressed for the ‘merican spirit. Don’t mind that I posed by those white Roman pillars because someone thought it would be funny to match with my “gladiator” shoes. Can’t lie.. it’s pretty fitting.
Anyways, Peek a boo! I spy with my little eye… a scaredy pup! haha. Too cute to not share my kodak moment captured whilst two big dogs were play wrestling and this wee one was hiding behind the bike wondering “what’s all the commotion about” (I like to put words in to dogs’ mouths.. can’t help it):
Yesterday’s rooftop pic via iphone. Especially with the illegal ones popping off all throughout the Mission, I had a 360 fireworks experience like no other. Super stellar.
Hope everyone got a nice tan and had plenty of fun!
