An outfit of irrelevance now that autumn is truly here, chilling to the bones. I’ve been meaning to post this as soon I returned some weekends ago; however, I was overtaken by sloth behavior. Fighting this lingering cold (ugh!), I decided to take break from exercise to rest, resulting to depleted energy levels. I’m slowly mustering back some energy and recalibrating to my norm, just in time for another weekend trip.. only to find myself back in recovery mode. Then it’ll be my birthday/Thanksgiving food coma (I’m starting to notice the trend here).

That past weekend of October will remain a significant piece of my life. I would say it’ll mean much more for my best friend (or at least it better). I phoned all our close friends and her boyfriend to prepare a surprise gathering for her birthday. It was beyond successful; everyone contributed in creating such a memorable weekend. Really, how can you go wrong with non-stop fooding, spectacular rooftop views, sharing hilarious jokes with great friends and a chance to meet Chili & T-Boz of TLC? Coming from a girl that obsessed over her limited edition Fan Mail CD because it was holographic, and still bumping TLC until this very day, I was on cloud nine for at least the next 72 hours due to short conversation with them. There are a hand full of celebrities that I’d lose my shiz for, and TLC is one of them… I mean I even referred to them in a previous post: here.

food for thought: life is sweet

IMG_5419

Let’s just start off by saying this is so hard for me to do. To let people into the personal but I think or I hope from this, somewhere someone will find this helpful:

UH HUH, HONEY. We will all have our time to shine, I promise. Life is good. This year has honestly been the best year ever. Why? Because all my closest friends moved away from home, I dealt with a break up that revealed a lot of dirty truths, and sticky situations at the home front. Doesn’t that sound a lot like perfection? Cutting the sarcasm, everything happened the way it did and opened my eyes. What I learned:

Friendship – I would have never gotten closer to the people I am with today if I never broke down my barriers. I used to be the type to rely on my support system and stuck with the same bubble of friends. Maybe it’s a San Franciscan thing, we like our cliques. Having my closest friends further away, I built paths for me to break out of my comfort zone, allowing new people to dig their roots into my life, like planting new trees on a road. It wasn’t that I never made new friends; the issue was allowing others to become more than an acquaintance in fear of cruel intentions. Reality is, there will always be someone that may hurt you and I knew if I kept going about with this impression in my head, I will never let anyone into my life. Lesson learned: sometimes it’s okay to be a little foolish. To really learn and get to know someone, you have to drop your defenses, listen without judgement, and be a friend without presumptions.

Relationship/The Self – Everyone loves status updates on “how are you doing” when you get out of a relationship. They are even more astonished, maybe confused, when you go through a break up and tell them you’re actually doing great and mean it! You have to mean it. Lesson learned: Ladies and gents, you’ve got to love yourself first, or no one else will (J.Cole – Crooked Smile, exactly what he said). If that ‘love’ is no longer there, don’t fret, the love from your friends and family is solid. The love for the self, your self worth, still remains. And if it isn’t, honey, you have to go find it! The moment you stop seeking attention from others because of a little loneliness and instead focus on becoming the best YOU, your light will shine. You’ll realize your accomplishments made for yourself, by yourself. Allotted this single-hood, there is plenty of time to be productive, be promiscuous, be lazy, have fun with friends and best of all, you’re going to sleep happy with who you are and your becomings, rather than feeling sad about what you had and why it didn’t work. We all know relationships come with healthy arguments and they’re much harder to deal with when you’re carrying the weight of not understanding yourself. Instead of dealing with one problem, you’re then digging into all the things that you previously left unresolved. The best relationships work out when you have a strong understanding and connection with yourself first.IMG_5421Tout Sweet Pâtisserie desserts and hot chocolate

With all that was said, I’m still learning and each day I’m loving what life has to offer. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Why not add yummy pictures of sweets I devoured to go along with the topic, it’s like we’re chatting over tea/coffee! I truly hope whoever out there dealing with a sucky situation can see light at the end of the tunnel. I posted this because I had people frequently ask me about these topics so I thought it’ll be helpful to shed a little of my findings. Seriously.. I’m already fighting to delete this because I really can’t believe you guys are gonna read this…… (freaking out in my mind)!! Oh well, “Got 99 problems but… __fill in the blank__  ain’t one” haha.

goodliving: boost your immunity

Achoo! Bless you, you, and you. We all know everyone and their mamas, papas, cats and dogs – you name it – we’re all getting sick! I had to deal with a gnarly cough for about a month and ended up on antibiotics. If you know me, I rarely hop on drugs for a quick fix.

So to hopefully help some of you dodge this crazy cold, here are a few natural, easy tips you can give a try:

R&R – RELAX & REST. Many of us are always busy. We’re workaholics. We’re party animals, and amidst it all, is the importance of finding that quiet time to get a good night’s rest. That’s the hard part – finding that balance. Without good rest, your body wears out, grows fatigued; that is when you’re more susceptible to getting sick. As much as we’d all want to run off caffeine and live like the energizer bunny, we’re only human; we need rest to re-charge our body.

ECHINACEA. So I kind of, sort of, swear by this. This herb has helped me conquer minor colds to fevers. Best of all, it has helped my friends bounce back from feeling under the weather at a much quicker rate (especially my best friend, who used to always – I mean always – be sick). I use echinacea when I notice onset signs of a cold, or at the early stage of when I’m actually sick. Echinacea makes symptoms less severe. It should not be taken as a daily supplement because you won’t allow your body to build it’s own immunity.

ZINC. This mineral increases the production of white blood cells that help fight infection. I’m no doctor but I do recall my own doctor telling me this isn’t something you have to take everyday. It’s not recommended to have too much zinc in your body though it is still essential. It is a metal, so use sparingly and it is beneficial to our health. I normally only take zinc when I notice the early signs of feeling sick.

GARLIC. Not only does garlic add a wonderful kick to foods (mm.. garlic fries), it’s fresh cloves are packed with anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. So get to eating more of this stinking rose, because it’s also good for your heart.

Stay healthy folks and if you’re one of the many not feeling well, I wish you a speedy recovery!

Fall in the city has turned into the sunny first few weeks of Summer; these are the only days you’ll be able to see confident bare legs roam the streets without the stiff, trying to look like “you’re not freezing your butt off when you really are” look. Unless you’ve bumped into a tourist who unfortunately had no idea that SF is usually always cold. Fine. Maybe I’m exaggerating a little, and it’s just me, and I’m always cold.

There’s been a lot of wind lately, and I’m not necessarily speaking to weather; there’s a lot of talk but no good action or a step to a right place going on in the news. You’ve guessed it. The shutdown continues and I encourage for you to take just a little bit of your time to keep updated with whatever you can. And dig, really dig… There’s always plenty of dirt when you start with a shovel and you will see there’s a lot you will find.
The good, the bad, and the ugly. Truth.

On a breezier note, leave it to me to have my hair a mess in the actual wind. Some girls, they look like a scene in Baywatch, others are like Pocahontas – Colors of the Winds, and then there’s me… beastly uproar mixed with a little of The Grudge. Luckily I had Tomas to capture the tamed, haha.

Tremendous thanks to the multi-faceted talent, that is Tomas, for taking these amazing shots.

now and zen

Sunday was a blend of throwback bliss; I met up with some old friends to picnic in the park, and dance to good tunes. Not to mention most of this outfit was thrown together with circa 07-08 in mind. Speaking about fashion collection dates, a funny conversation sprouted. If I could rock a rainbow of Celine purses, I’d probably drop that cash in a heartbeat; However, reality is, my life is like Lorde – Royals. I’m happy with what I got, even if it’s not a lot. So most of my outfits aren’t gonna consist of the new-new, but they are a reflection of me and what I make of all my clothes thrifted or bought on sale! Baller on a Budget, I’ll say it loud and proud! If you can relate, shout it out loud with me!

Now reverting back to the concert, Now and Zen brought back flashes of nostalgia. Not gonna lie… Goo Goo Dolls – Iris was my song, along with everyone else I’m sure. One Republic killed it with the mash ups of Same Love and Gold Digger. I love a melting pot of… Well, everything: music genres, high-low priced fashion, diversity, culture, you name it. Think of it this way; we’re all living the same struggles on this earth so to open your eyes and see beyond just what you want to see, and notice like the movie Crash, we are all connected and as a whole, it is beautiful.
