There’s been a lot of wind lately, and I’m not necessarily speaking to weather; there’s a lot of talk but no good action or a step to a right place going on in the news. You’ve guessed it. The shutdown continues and I encourage for you to take just a little bit of your time to keep updated with whatever you can. And dig, really dig… There’s always plenty of dirt when you start with a shovel and you will see there’s a lot you will find.
The good, the bad, and the ugly. Truth.

On a breezier note, leave it to me to have my hair a mess in the actual wind. Some girls, they look like a scene in Baywatch, others are like Pocahontas – Colors of the Winds, and then there’s me… beastly uproar mixed with a little of The Grudge. Luckily I had Tomas to capture the tamed, haha.

Tremendous thanks to the multi-faceted talent, that is Tomas, for taking these amazing shots.

paint the town

My sister copped this crop top for $4, a steal! I decided to pair it with some high waisted shorts and sadly, even then, my abnormally long torso continues to reveal. Le sigh, first world long torso problems where bra-ettes and crop tops are just beneath the bra line for me. I felt since I’ll never get to wear a midriff back home, I might as well suck it up, and wear it somewhere sunny! LA weather was absolutely gorgeous and continued to heat up that I really didn’t need to bring a long sleeve. However, being so accustomed to city nights, it’s engrained to always be prepared for a chill.

Whilst painting the town of LA with the girls, I paired up with my friend Brian to take these fun shots, along with a few more outfits in the next few blog entries to come! He was able to capture so many great shots, super helpful, and accommodating to your image direction. If you’re ever in or already in the area of LA/Burbank, definitely hit him up: http://www.briancuasito.com

Gap jacket, Zara tee, Urban Outfitters high waist jeans, Urban Outfitters sneaker wedges, vintage Coach ‘Willis‘ bag, Marc Jacobs spike ring

If you love something, you wear the bajeezus outta it, right? Exactly. Part of the rotation is this jacket (see here) and these high-waist black jeans that fit like a glove. Oh and sneaker wedges, been coveting since day one yet avoided purchasing a pair for the longest time. Already owning more than a handful of kicks that I hardly wear now, I didn’t want another excuse to allow them to collect dust. Then a sale happened (a while back) and I got saw these wannabe Isabel Marants at Urban Outfitters for about $20. SOLD. Saved me from questioning a $600 purchase on the real deal; so sorry fashion gods, please forgive me for I am just the typical broke post-college student of life now trying to get her shiz together, haha!

knot a biggie

Rubbish sheer embroidered peplum top (similar), Express boxy tee, Forever 21 distressed zipper jeans (similar), vintage belt, Zara heels, vintage classic Coach bag

I can’t believe I’m so tempted to start the post with… wait for it… “Yup, in my white tee!” (dang, just brought it back to the early 2000’s when guys swam in XXXL Tall Tees from Foot Locker) but in my case, I’m rocking the over-sized boxy tee. I wanted to remain fairly minimalistic and stuck with neutrals – white, black and hints of gold… and my blue nail polish. Excuse that, haha. Decided to give this big ol’ shirt a little knot to expose some of the sheer peplum top that I paired underneath to give some texture. With all the gold hardware, it was only proper to complete the mini gold message with the gold heeled sandals. Thanks to my cousin for passing off these Zara heels to me because they’re definitely an attention grabber. Well, it’s either that or the fact that the ankle strap it a bit too high so it makes walking slightly difficult so, in all actuality, I could just be strutting like a running camel. Enjoy that lovely imagery, and I’ll leave you all with that, haha!

comfortable

outfit: Gap double breasted shawl collar sweater, Cotton on harem pants jumpsuit, Forever 21 sweater, vintage Coach bag, Urban Outfitter boots. food: Trouble Coffee and Outerlands

Overcast on a summer’s day. Sleepy, squinty eyes. Comfortable attire and catching up over brunch with some good friends. With the latter taken place, the day’s not all too bad. So what, the leopard may be a bit much for some but I’m a sucker for harem pants and toned down with cozy neutrals, I can dig it.

If you haven’t noticed by now, I’ve been on a ever long streak of not shopping so all the previous and future posts will most likely be outfits utilizing what I already own. Don’t get me wrong since I’ve made a few misdemeanors, purchasing some newbies so it’s all about self control. Sadly, I believe that all the money I’ve saved myself from shopping is counteracted by my food consumption… and that’s another topic up for discussion.

I can’t wait for a wardrobe revamp but until then, this whole not buying new, has really pushed me to flip my drawers, trying to style pieces together. It’s a fun challenge I’ve accepted where I have my days when I think “why the hell did I buy this” and days when I’m like “oh yeah… forgot how cute this was”. Point is, it allows me be more aware, economical and sustainable to our environment. Rather than constantly in with the new-new, I’m a big advocate for thrifting (before the thrift shop song popularizing it) and just finding ways to ‘recycle’ your clothing – whether it be re-thinking how you wear it, turning things into a DIY project, donating, etc. Hope it can inspire you to dig through your closet and pay a visit to some of the old and mixing it with your new.
