Sunday was a blend of throwback bliss; I met up with some old friends to picnic in the park, and dance to good tunes. Not to mention most of this outfit was thrown together with circa 07-08 in mind. Speaking about fashion collection dates, a funny conversation sprouted. If I could rock a rainbow of Celine purses, I’d probably drop that cash in a heartbeat; However, reality is, my life is like Lorde – Royals. I’m happy with what I got, even if it’s not a lot. So most of my outfits aren’t gonna consist of the new-new, but they are a reflection of me and what I make of all my clothes thrifted or bought on sale! Baller on a Budget, I’ll say it loud and proud! If you can relate, shout it out loud with me!

Now reverting back to the concert, Now and Zen brought back flashes of nostalgia. Not gonna lie… Goo Goo Dolls – Iris was my song, along with everyone else I’m sure. One Republic killed it with the mash ups of Same Love and Gold Digger. I love a melting pot of… Well, everything: music genres, high-low priced fashion, diversity, culture, you name it. Think of it this way; we’re all living the same struggles on this earth so to open your eyes and see beyond just what you want to see, and notice like the movie Crash, we are all connected and as a whole, it is beautiful.

thelifegrubbing: berkeley bites

IMG_5199 IMG_5200IMG_5197 IMG_5201IMG_5191 Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset IMG_5228A composition of what made my week.

Sundays are my fun days; their my favorite days along with Fridays and Saturdays. I assume that goes the same for most people. To do it right, I ended last week by going on a pretty yet long hike to then stroll around Berkeley for lots, I mean lots, of bites with my friend. Nothing like ending a good workout with gourmet potato puffs and white truffle fries at Gregoire. SRSLY. It didn’t stop there because it’s only proper to wash it down with some Philz Coffee. We then sat down at this cute sushi spot, Joshu-ya, and filled our bellies with yummy tuna and salmon rolls, uni, and ama-ebi! Wait, one can’t simply forget about dessert. I can’t even describe how much I loved Ici’s handmade organic scoops of heaven, I mean, sorbets. Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard and mention that the harvest moon was sitting full, big, and low this week. What a lovely site while jogging to dinner mid-week that I had to snap a shot. Is it just me or whenever I think these tall electrical wires, this song pops up in my head, “Through the fire, through whatever come what may. For a chance at loving you, I’d take it all away. Right down through the wire, even through the fire”. Okay, signing off with the throwback Kanye before I start rambling even more.

ready. set. goal

IMG_1083 IMG_1089

I suppose if it’s announced publicly, it must become a commitment! Over Labor Day weekend, the girls and I painted the city of angels red. We reveled at a pool party, which prior to baring into bikinis, I decided to feast like a king because: 1. I normally do and 2. I wanted to be able to last through the night. Sadly, it was quite inevitable after feeling bloated as a whale to stray from that self esteem, especially with a pool filled with coke-bottled, perfect-figured sharks swimming around. Pause. Nobody’s perfect. Before going about the “stfu, you’re skinny”, this IS a skinny girl rant because that is exactly the problem. I don’t want to be viewed as skinny, I want to be fit! They are two completely different concepts and I have a ways to go. As I speak for myself, I am nearly shapeless; if I stood next to Spongebob Squarepants, it will be difficult to tell us apart aside from his charming good looks.

The issue with my body type is that I am an apple where all my food ends up being stored around my abdominal, which is the hardest area to burn. Frankly, its triple times more difficult because I love food so much that the thought of a strict diet… Well, its not even thought. After scoping out the various body types by the poolside, I’ve decided I really need to put my foot, er.. fork, down.

Currently, I’m only working out enough to maintain. I know without ever changing my diet (or the excessive amount I eat), it’s going to take a lifetime before I see real results. Here, my goal comes in: it’s time to put more thought to eating cleaner and scheduling time to exercise more. No more cheat weeks; it has to remain a cheat day, as in one not five. This state of mind doesn’t spring because I think I am “fat”, rather I want to be healthy. I don’t want to start panting excessively when I speed walk up hills. I want to see some definition in my arms, abs, and let’s just throw in a bubble butt while we’re at it. Wimpy as it sounds, I want to be able to do a proper pull up without chair assistant, aside from reaching the bar, because at this point, simply dangling myself on the bar might not be the cutest look.

I’m not trying to do a disappearing act with myself, more so, I hope to start selling you tickets to the gun show. Kidding. Before I go over my head, I will give myself until my birthday, a full two months, to really push myself out of my comfort zone (being lazy). I’m not trying to be a body builder, I’ll be ecstatic with half the strength of one. So here’s to the extra sets of burpees, incorporating more weights, staying away from eating multiple cookies in one sitting and running that extra mile.

Whether reading this motivates you to try to reach or push harder in your personal health goals or if you think this is petty, it’s absolutely fine. As long as I’m able to entertain a positive thought and promote even the littlest growth, we can be in this together. Let’s get it!

Urban Outfitters cut out silk dress, Oscar de la Renta sunglasses, Steve Madden sandals, Zoya nail polish

Keeping it simple and clean. Okay, the dress got dirty because I was at a BBQ and when there’s food around.. I’m prone to spilling accidents. Paired this dress with my denim biker jacket but it was way too hot to keep any layers on so luckily I got my blue toesies to keep me dressed for the ‘merican spirit. Don’t mind that I posed by those white Roman pillars because someone thought it would be funny to match with my “gladiator” shoes. Can’t lie.. it’s pretty fitting.

Anyways, Peek a boo! I spy with my little eye… a scaredy pup! haha. Too cute to not share my kodak moment captured whilst two big dogs were play wrestling and this wee one was hiding behind the bike wondering “what’s all the commotion about” (I like to put words in to dogs’ mouths.. can’t help it):
photo (7)photo (2)Yesterday’s rooftop pic via iphone. Especially with the illegal ones popping off all throughout the Mission, I had a 360 fireworks experience like no other. Super stellar.

Hope everyone got a nice tan and had plenty of fun!

H&M flower petal dress, Pacsun necklace, vintage Dooney & Bourke bag, Oscar de la Renta sunglasses, Chanel slingback heels

Nothing like starting a summer’s morning early with the sound of champagne bottle popping and uncorking some vino. The girls and I decided to keep it classy with a limo trip to Napa for some good old wine tasting. A perfect occasion to dust off this flower petal dress I bought a few years back for graduation. Even then, I still adore the petals and this will probably be the few things that I own that oozes femininity. A shift dress with thrills and frills especially in white may be a concern for some since none of those attribute to being figure flattering. So a quick and easy solve I like to do, is ‘waist’ it. I cinched the waist with an elastic band, you can easily use a skinny belt or have fun and use ribbon etc, just so I don’t look anymore boxier than my day to day. Threw my necessities into my usual vintage D&G cross-body and kept my pinkies up as I slipped into my beloved color-block Chanel’s.

Ecote romper, Alternative Apparel acid wash sweater (similar), Gap denim vest, Old Navy oxfords, vintage Dooney&Bourke bag

This weekend was jam packed with the sun reeling in plenty of good fun with my favorite peeps. Brunch and BBQs to the amazing XX concert; I was in constant movement. Today being the very last day that SFMOMA would be opened, the girls and I paid a visit and got inspired by all the great artwork. Truly a beautiful venue. It’ll be interesting to see the new changes made when they re-open three years from now. With the bi-polar weather that is SF, dressing requires layers on layers on layers. Though it was still gorgeous out, it wasn’t long before it got windy so the bare legs needed some warmth. Thinking ahead, these thigh high socks came to my rescue this afternoon so I was a-okay.

Hope everyone else enjoyed their weekend!

a break away

Forever 21 suede jacket, American Apparel crop tank (here), H.I.P sheer polka dot top, Mango shorts, Oscar De La Renta sunglasses, thrifted shoes, vintage D&B bucketbag

Since I didn’t partake in the bay to breakers madness this year, to avoid the traffic, we decided to break away to another part of the bay – crossing the bridge. Just our luck, we arrive with post graduation gatherings when trying to find parking and seating for brunch in Berkeley. None the less, it was a gorgeous day out. So nice and sunny, hence me tucking in my sleeves in attempt to do what I call “city tanning” aka making do of getting as much sun exposure as possible! Non-stop food exploration from brunch to ice cream, to brewskis at the homie’s and grabbing hotdogs. I tried to bring the hippie meets modern everyday casual feel with me by rocking the red biker jacket with fringes all through the back and sleeves; it was a random F21 find and I love it. Plus, the leather-weaved flats that I thrifted years ago have such a down to earth look and unfortunately are slowly breaking apart. Oh, and excuse the wrinkly shorts.. I hate when that happens. Don’t you?
